CAMELEON car body workstations for steel, aluminum and carbon

More and more cars in mixed construction

More and more car bodies are made from a combination of steel, aluminum and carbon. Mixed construction methods are now used by all major car manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, Volvo and VW. This trend will also continue in the high-volume passenger car market over the next few years. The new CAMELEON car body workstation from SEHON Innovative Lackieranlagen und Technik is a multi-material-mix car body workstation for all necessary work such as welding, cutting, sawing, grinding, gluing, riveting, assembling, pulling, shaping, vacuuming and cleaning. The economic and technical background to this innovation: body stores and vehicle workshops have to adapt to the special features of mixed construction methods in accident repair.

CAMELEON bodywork workstations the perfect solution
Due to the high safety requirements, a body store would have to have three separate body work stations for different materials such as steel, aluminum and carbon. Working on a vehicle at several separate workstations during accident repairs takes a lot of time and energy and is therefore very time-consuming and expensive. The new CAMELEON workstation is the perfect solution for the future, in which more and more vehicles will consist of a mix of steel, aluminum and carbon materials. Body stores can handle the day-to-day business with steel bodies as well as bodies in mixed construction at a single workstation without losing time and without investing in several material-specific body workstations ergonomically, safely and economically. Body stores that believe that vehicles with a mix of materials can be repaired at an existing classic steel workstation without any problems are often unaware that enormous safety requirements must be met when processing different materials at the same time. Improper handling of joints made of steel, aluminum, carbon and plastics can not only lead to contact corrosion on the vehicle, but also to hazardous dusts, vapors and other chemical-physical compounds. In extreme cases, this can result in explosions and fires in the plant, serious accidents and damage to the health of employees.
Safe bodywork workstations
The long-held opinion that the car manufacturer is liable for damage and accidents in the body store when repairing hybrid vehicles is incorrect. The owner of the bodyshop is solely liable for damage and accidents within the bodyshop during vehicle repairs. According to the law, the owner is fully responsible for operational safety. However, the service documentation and training provided by vehicle manufacturers are primarily aimed at ensuring the quality of repairs to the vehicle. CAMELEON, the new bodywork workstation for mixed construction methods from SEHON Innovative Lackieranlagen fulfills the legal requirements for workplace safety, including for surrounding work areas. The core innovation is the multi-dust separator used for safe and spark-free one-way direct extraction of a wide variety of dusts without the risk of a dust explosion. SEHON also provides prescribed safety instructions and training for company owners and employees.
Equipment of the new bodywork workstations
The basic version of CAMELEON includes a tested and approved curtain system with a choice of transparent strip colors, LED lighting with at least 900 lux, a welding fume extraction system on the left or right, a technical rear panel for the extraction and filter technology, integrated tool cabinets with separate steel and aluminium tools, various shelves and storage spaces and a central supply terminal for all media. The workstation can be operated in recirculation and exhaust air mode.

Optional equipment features include a roof ventilation system for smoke residues and fumes, a second welding fume extraction system, aluminum and steel tools, hand tools and consumables, special tools, lifting platforms and straightening benches.

The new bodywork workstation allows modular workstation design and equipment according to customer requirements and the operational installation situation – even in existing plants.

Unique technology

Tiemo Sehon is delighted with the great interest shown by body and paint stores, workshops and car manufacturers: “With our new multi-material bodywork workstation, we are offering another innovative and practical milestone for our industry. The intelligent cutting-edge technology used here and a multitude of product benefits in terms of safety, ergonomics and cost-effectiveness are unique in the world.”
