Farewell to the fossils
High-tech and green technology: FabriCar in Bad Aibling consistently relies on renewable energy for heat and electricity, operates CO₂-neutrally and uses geothermal energy in addition to photovoltaics. When a paint store is built these days, the energy concept is a top priority. When Fabricar owner Christian Kucz set about building his extension at the company’s headquarters in Bad Aibling around three years ago, the framework conditions changed dramatically in this respect. “Originally, we planned to use gas as the traditional energy source,” recalls Christian Kucz. “Shortly before the start of construction, the Ukraine war broke out and with it the risk of gas supply bottlenecks.” To be on the safe side, liquid gas was then chosen as the energy source for the first part of the new building, but this proved to be a temporary solution. Christian Kucz: “Checking supplies, arranging delivery, finding a good price – none of that was what I had in mind for a new building.” When it finally came to the realization of the new paint shop, it was clear to him – now was the time to make a big splash. Which suited him: When it came to paint materials, the requirements for the long-standing Sikkens customer had changed.

Sustainable refurbishment. CO₂-neutral into the future.
The repair center FabriCar relies on high-tech not only for vehicle repairs: by using geothermal energy and photovoltaics, the company is a pioneer when it comes to renewable energy. When it came to extending the existing paint shop, FabriCar owner Christian Kucz made no compromises. He seized the opportunity to consistently implement a future-oriented sustainability strategy for his entire business at the same location.
The requirements were high: no more fossil fuels, heat and electricity from in-house production – not only for the new paint shop, but also for the existing building – combined with state-of-the-art, energy-saving paint shop technology. The contract to implement the wishes and requirements of FabriCar was awarded to the German plant manufacturer Sehon innovative Lackieranlagen from near Stuttgart. Christian Kucz did not have to think long about his choice: “Sehon and its system partner Premiotherm are regarded as absolute leaders when it comes to sustainable, environmentally friendly high-tech painting systems and heat supply systems for paint stores. So it made sense to give our business a new home with their expertise.”

CO₂-neutral into the future with high-tech and geothermal energy
FabriCar in Bad Aibling is the first body and paint store to consistently rely on renewable energy for heat and electricity, operate CO₂-neutrally and use geothermal energy in addition to photovoltaics. This was made possible by a modern extension at the same site, which gave the existing paint shop a new, modern home. Christian Kucz, owner of FabriCar, used the expansion to consistently implement a future-oriented sustainability strategy for his entire business. Sehon paint shops: now also using geothermal energy
Sehon is one of the leading companies that make bodyshops sustainable. Now, “FabriCar” in Bad Aibling (Germany) has become the first company to use geothermal energy for its eco-strategy. The operational requirements were high: no more fossil fuels, heat and electricity from in-house production – not only for the new paint shop, but also for the existing building – combined with the latest energy-saving paint shop technology. “What is unique in the industry so far,” says Tiemo Sehon, “is that FabriCar is the first company to use geothermal energy, i.e. geothermal energy, to power the building, for hot water, for heating and for operating the paint shops and dryers, in addition to photovoltaics.” Geothermal energy can be used for heating, cooling and power generation. This Sehon customer uses ambient heat from the ground, namely from the groundwater, via heat pumps to generate energy. For this purpose, a well system consisting of two production wells and two return wells was installed in the groundwater close to the surface. An in-house photovoltaic system and geothermal energy are the main energy suppliers at “FabriCar”. The trick is to adapt the energy obtained in this way and its consumption to the operational requirements. This is because paint stores are subject to large fluctuations in energy consumption, both in day-to-day business and seasonally.

FabriCar-Repair center goes CO₂-neutral into the future
The body and paint store FabriCar in Bad Aibling consistently relies on renewable energy for heat and electricity and is CO₂-neutral. The German system manufacturer Sehon was commissioned by FabriCar to implement the sustainability strategy for the entire business. Together with system partner Premiotherm, an environmentally friendly high-tech paint shop was built that uses geothermal energy as well as photovoltaics. Christian Kucz, owner of FabriCar, had set himself ambitious goals: no more fossil fuels, heat and electricity from in-house production – not only for the new paint shop, but also for the existing building – combined with the latest energy-saving paint shop technology. “This is unique in the industry,” says Tiemo Sehon. Managing Director of Sehon Innovative Lackieranlagen GmbH, “that Fabricar is using geothermal energy for the first time, i.e. geothermal energy for the building’s energy supply, for hot water, for heating and for operating the painting systems and dryers.” – At the heart of the painting process is the SE-Professional Futura combi spray booth with integrated drying function. According to the company, this premium booth requires over 80 percent less energy than paint booths with little or no energy-saving technology. For sustainable painting operations, it is important that the traditionally large energy consumers such as the booth and dryer use minimal energy from the outset.
